(our apologies as the sound sometimes may not match the picture)
Part One (of two)
Some take-away messages:
“Students have the freedom and the responsibility for their own learning” – Tane (parent)
“I choose what I want to do, and I get to do what I want to do, and I get to learn
what I want to learn. All day, every day.” - Tadan (student)
- "It's a place where people can learn a lot about themselves, about their way of learning – what works
for them and what doesn't work for them." - Kristin (staff)
“The staff body governs the day-to-day life of the school, and the parents basically stay out
of the way of that. That really lets the pressure off the kids, so that they don’t have their
parents hovering around and saying, ‘shouldn’t you being doing this’ or ‘shouldn’t you be
doing that’. It really gives the kids the freedom and responsibility for their
own learning.” - Tane (parent)
Part Two (of two)
Some take-away messages:
“I love the fact that the kids get to work the problems out themselves, and in doing so,
they are able to evolve. I think the fact that he (Pascaline's son) sees resolution whenever
there’s conflict, and dealt with in a fair way and with his peers, that is absolutely critical.
They learn ultimate responsibility, they learn how their actions and words impact others.
They become more conscious of others.” – Pascaline (parent)
- “Overall, with all the things that we have here: the kids, the freedom, the different people,
the different personalities. The school is so small that the relationships between other people
are so much more different than at other private schools and a lot of public schools.
That makes the daily life so much more better.” - Matt (student)
- “that you become very close with the other people who are involved at the school. You get
to know them on a very intimate level. And I really enjoy being able to be a part of that
community and be myself as an educator. ...it’s just very fulfilling to be part of
a very authentic community.” – Kristin (staff)
- “It should be called the super happy awesome cool school.” – Tadan (student)
