Every student, regardless of their age, and staff member has a vote at the meeting. Since students outnumber staff, they effectively control the school. Attendance is an option at the meeting, and there are no proxies.

It is a place for thought, argument, and where rules of the school are proposed and decided. Some of the formal rules of School Meeting are:

• People speak only when they are addressed and recognized by the Chair.
• All decisions are made by a simple majority vote.
