The School Meeting
...is at the heart of the school. It addresses large to small issues and is the authority in the school's daily activities. Every student, regardless of their age, and staff member has a vote at the meeting. Since students outnumber staff, they effectively control the school. Attendance is an option at the meeting, and there are no proxies.
It is a place for thought, argument, and where rules of the school are proposed and decided. Some of the formal rules of School Meeting are:
-
People speak only when they are addressed and recognized by the Chair.
- All decisions are made by a simple majority vote.
Some examples of School Meeting agendas include: negotiation of staff contracts, special expenditures, revision of current rules.
