The Beach School, opened in the east end of Toronto
in September 2003, is a student-directed school that models itself
after the Sudbury Valley School, which has been in operation in
Framingham, Massachusetts since 1968.

Valley School to Visit The Beach School
May 2004
The Beach School is excited
to announce that Mimsy Sadofsky, a founder and staff member at the
Sudbury Valley School,
will be coming to The Beach School the last weekend in May.
Ms. Sadofsky's visit is
part of a new SVS program to provide support to other Sudbury Valley
model schools through participating in publicity events, staff training
and a meeting with members and friends of the school community.

Member Has Article Published in International Magazine
Children of the New Earth, a magazine published in California and
distributed internationally, has the mandate to, "investigate critical
issues pertaining to children ahead of mainstream media; to research and
highlight the work of pioneers in all fields who are lighting the way
for the children of our future, and keeping our readers up to date with
developments worldwide."
Kristin
Simpson, a full-time staff member at The Beach School has had an article
published in the most recent edition of this informative new magazine.

at The Beach School

The school has
now been open for more than five months, and staff and students are
settling into a routine (as much as things can ever be routine where
curriculum and administration are constantly evolving!) Some things are
quite similar to the way I pictured them before the school opened, while
others are quite different.
