The
Beach School Co-operative Inc. (TBS) was a not-for-profit, independent school for
children aged 4-19 and was a part of an
educational tradition of democratic decision-making and self-initiated
learning. Our school was modeled in particular after the Sudbury Valley
School, which has been running in Framingham, Massachusetts since 1968 and
has inspired schools around the world. The Beach School opened in
September 2003 and closed in June 2008 after five inspiring years.

A small group of people from The Beach School are
in the early stages of starting another Sudbury-model school in Toronto. Our
first hand experience of this educational model's effectiveness continues to
inspire us as we put into practice what we have learned about Toronto's
